IDEA Lab is a company based in Houston Texas that provides camps ranging from cooking, engineering, 3D Art, Science, and Robotics. It aims to provide STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) opportunities mainly to children between the ages of 5 and 12.
The camps, classes, and activities are crafted to provide a unique design based learning system. The class sessions are held in an environment that provides fun hands-on experience for the students. Students can learn the mechanics of robotics, or make great recipes through the Culinary Arts series. At IDEA Lab your kids will learn how to solve problems by using out-of-the-box techniques to address many of today’s problems in Science, Engineering, Technology, and Arts.
IDEA Lab Sessions
The sessions are designed to encourage children to think for themselves and be creative. Some of the teaching philosophies used in the program include:
- Reggio Emilia Method
- TPR (Total Physical Response)
- Project based learning
- Harkness Method
Additionally, the curriculum is designed based on seven learning styles which are spatial, auditory, linguistic, logical, kinesthetic, social and solitary. There are more than 50 camp options you can choose from. Camps are open during the following times:
- After school
- Holiday breaks
- Spring break
- Summer
After School Programs that make an Impact
The after school program has unique camps in the evening for 5 to 12-year-olds. It includes language, robotics, art, and tutoring support. The program’s curriculum also spans the range of learning for Science, Engineering, Arts, and Music. It was developed to enhance learning outside the classroom while keeping the class fun and engaging.
The campus after school program has two options:
- Option 1: This is a full enrichment program that provides a well-rounded learning experience for the child. Attendance is between 3-5 days per week during the school year. Participants will benefit by attending fun and engaging sessions, get homework supervision, take part in physical activities in the gym, and enjoy sumptuous snacks in between these sessions.
- Option 2: With this option, the participant can attend one or more classes per week. The participant can choose classes they want to attend by picking from the range of learning options which are based on STEAM (Science, Engineering, Arts, and Music) and the classes are designed to help students think outside the box and apply these solutions to solve real world problems.
Year Round Leagues
Besides its other learning programs IDEA lab has year round leagues for both chess and robotics. There are both competitive and non-competitive tournaments held during the year. Participants are categorized according to their level of skill. Elementary to middle school students may participate in the robotics leagues, while there are chess leagues with different levels ranging from beginner to advanced.
Other additional programs include language immersion which utilizes a proprietary method that incorporates techniques used by native speakers. There are also 3D printing classes where children learn the principles of designing 3D objects as they watch their creations come to life. What sets IDEA lab apart is that each lab is designed to provide an all round fun and engaging experience.
